DIY
PIN PUNK
Learn how to make your own laminated pins & badges.
The short do-it-yourself version.
  • Step 1 - Find an image
  • Step 2 - Laminate it
  • Step 3 - Cut it out
  • Step 4 - Punch a hole in it
  • Step 5 - Add a safety pin

The longer step-by-step version.

Step 1 - Choose and prepare your image (message or text)

  • Find or create a suitable image
  • We're assuming you are capable of doing this without our help. If you can't think of a single image or idea for making a button, then go here.

  • Depending on the the size of the image you have and the size of the button you want to make, you may want to crop or resize the image (using computer, scanner, copy machine, etc).

    • If you plan to make multiple copies of your pin or badge image, you may want to take the time to create and layout a master sheet containing many repeated copies of your image

    • Print out a copies of your master sheet (using a printer, copy machine, etc.)

The modern way to create an image is to do so using a computer and a graphics software program.
The great thing about using a computer to create your image is that you can create a large image (which can be easier to work with) and then 1. reduce the size of your working image to make it as small as you'd like and 2. easily make and print out multiple copies.

  • Cut the image sheet into individual pieces
  •

Here I am using my old "guillotine" cutting board to cut a master sheet of 16 (4 x 4) pin images. I trim the sheets, then cut them into rows, and then cut the rows into individual pieces of paper. You don't have to use a cutting board (and if you do, you'll probably want to use a more modern and less dangerous one than this). Of course, you can also just use scissors to cut out the pieces of paper. If you like straight edges, however, your going to want to use a cutting board or a ruler and razor knife. Using a cutting board seems to be the quickest and most efficient way to cut up a lot of pieces of paper. Cutting the paper pins up as precisely as you'd like may take some practice, however, so always be prepared to screw up and waste some of your paper pins during this part of the process.

Step 2 - Laminate your image - instructions for hot (thermal) laminating Buy your own double sheets (also called "pouches") of thermal laminating plastic from an office supply store (like Staples) or a copy center (like Kinko's--now FedExKinko's). These sheets/pouches come in various thicknesses. I like to use 5 mil or 10 mil thick laminating plastic -- otherwise the little pins and badges are not strong or durable enough for my tastes. Your own preferences about this may vary, so try out various thicknesses before committing yourself to buying a box of pouches.
  • arrange images in laminating plastic (if you are creating multiple copies or images)
  •

Here I am laying out a 9x11-inch laminating pouch with individual pieces of the pin image. I use just a touch of the glue stick to give the back of the pin image just enough stickiness to stick to the laminating plastic. I created this cardboard graph-paper board to help me layout my pin images in precisely straight rows and columns--leaving just enough space between and above each pin for the clear laminating plastic that will frame each pin. Laying the images out in straight rows and columns make the job of cutting up the laminating plastic into individual pins much easier than if each pin has to be cut out by hand.
  • run the laminating sheet through a laminating machine
  • If you don't have easy access to a laminating machine to melt and press your laminating sheets, then you will need to find a local outlet (such as Kinko's) who will do this for you (for a fee or the laminating may be included in the price of the laminating pouch).

Here I am running a sheet of badges through my own laminating machine. Notice how the "milky" laminating plastic is a lot clearer after it has gone through the laminating machine and been fused together by heat.

If you find yourself making a lot of these laminated pins and badges, you may want to get your own laminating machine. They come in various shapes, sizes, and prices. Don't rush into this. Do your homework before buying.

Step 3 - Cut out your laminated image
  • cut & trim laminating plastic into individual badges

  • Here I am using my cutting board, again. This time I am trimming and cutting the laminated sheets into columns (or rows) and then cutting each column (or row) into individual badges. You will find that cutting through laminated plastic is harder than cutting through paper, but the clear plastic also makes it easier to line up your cuts. You could also cut the individual badges out by hand using scissors. Scissor-cut lines are usually less than perfectly straight...but you may actually like how that looks.

Step 4 - Punch hole(s) in the laminated image
  • punch holes--one hole to make a hanging badge or two holes to make a fixed pin
  • I use a small handheld mechanical paper punch to put holes in the laminating plastic. If I use one hole, the laminated badge will "dangle" from the safety pin. If I use two holes, and put the safety pin through both holes, then the pin is snuggly fastened to the clothes. Paper punches come in different sizes and make holes from 1/8-inch, to 3/16-inch to 1/4-inch. The 1/4-inch punch is the most common and easy to find, but I like to use a 3/16-inch punch for badges because the hole is smaller and doesn't require as much clear plastic above the image (i.e., gives me more choice and room). I like to use the smallest size hole punch--1/8-inch--to make the two holes for a pin. These smaller holes hold the safety pin more tightly insuring the pin won't slip sideways. The 1/8-inch hole punch, however, is the hardest size to find in retail stores.

Hand hole punchers - three different hole sizes.
When making badges, I use the paper punch to put one medium-sized round hole in the center at the top of the badge (in the the clear plastic above the image). I sometimes punch the hole off-center so the badge will hang at an angle.

When making pins, I use the paper punch to put two small-sized round holes in the clear plastic at the top of the pin. The holes should not be too close, but also not further apart then about three-quarters the length of the safety-pin you are using. You can put the safety pin on the front of the pin and pin it to the cloth or you can push the safety-pin around and through the holes (revolve it from front to back through the holes) so it is on the back of the plastic rectangle. This style holds the pin out from the cloth and some people like this style better--some find it easier to use and affix to their clothes and the safety pin stays with the laminating plastic at all times). My own preference is the regular pin type with the safety pin on the front. It's simpler and easier to assemble. Your preferences may differ and may vary depending on the pin, the audience, and the project.

All three fastening methods are illustrated in the picture below.

    Step 5 - Add a safety pin
    • safety pins
    • Safety pins come in lots of different sizes. Size 2 is the most common. I like to use size 1 for my pins and size 1 or 2 for my badges. It depends on the size of the pin or badge and other considerations. Experiment and find your own size preference. Mostly, I use silver safety pins, but I have also used brass and even enameled safety pins. I use so many safety pins, that I now buy them only in bulk quantities. They are a lot cheaper to buy in bulk than in the small packaged amounts you typically find in craft or sewing stores.

Step 6 - Wear it and hand them out!

Although the creative process is (or should be) its own reward and pleasure, wearing these pins and badges out and seeing (or imagining) the reactions of others is also fun. Most people on the planet have never or rarely seen a laminated pin or badge before, so they are often impressed by the simplicity and novelty of it. Make a bunch of pins and hand them out to family, friends, and strangers!

If you're like me, you'll like this game--you'll be thrilled to create, make and handout your own laminated images and statements as laminated badges and pins. You may also want to expand the game and 1. add these pins to your other art work or creative projects and/or 2. "package" these badges and pins up in their own little envelopes or paper folders--adding new meanings, references, and elements to your pins (and expanding this game and its possibilities). You can see some examples of the different things I have done with laminated pins by exploring what I have done with rock bands and other projects (the examples also include metal buttons I have created, too). Like all creative games, there are an infinite number of possibilities here and there will always be lots of new territory and possibilities to be explored (no matter what has been done before). If you find yourself taken with the idea of making these pins and you find yourself having lots of ideas for different ways to make these pins and different things to do with them, then welcomed to the club--this may turn out to be one of your creative games, too.

  • Kipas angin rumah (stand/duduk) ukuran agak besar/seadanya.
  • Pipa tembaga ukuran 3/16" panjang terserah.

Nah, sekarang AC sederhana siap mendinginkan ruangan.
Maka, dingin deh ruangannya... Its simple!

Paku payung image
hangger kawat besi
juga disediakan :

Alkohol dalam kemasan
Siapkan Alkohol didenaturasi atau 91% isopropil alkohol, atau Spritus!

Fiberglass (opsioanal, tapi disarankan!)

image

Setelah persiapan sudah OK, kita masuk ke cara kerjanya, perhatikan baik-baik langkah demi langkah berikut :

image

Amplas kedua kaleng tersebut, amplas sampai beberapa cm dr tinggi kaleng, Usahakan amplas semulus mungkin agar sempit dan menghindari kebocoran
image

Ukur kaleng dari bawah, potong kaleng menjadi beberapa inchi dari bawah (terserah anda mau potong berapa inchi)
image

jadilah hasilnya seperti pada gambar, Tips : setelah dipotong, Amplas permukaannya tepinya sampai halus seperti pada gambar diatas
image

image

Kompor portabelnya udah selesai dibuat. Sekarang tinggal pengujiannya!.

0 One of the great things about being an e-mail list owner is the wonderful letters and recipes I receive from subscribers each day. The following recipe is for laundry detergent. You can do this for less than $1 per batch! This recipe was sent to me by Marisa Gonzalez, who found this recipe in the book “Cheaper and Better: Homemade Alternatives” by Nancy Birnes. This book is out of print at this time, but I do have information on the Real Food for Real People website about how you may still obtain a copy.

I suggest that you store this mixture in a plastic bucket or other heavier plastic or glass container that has already been used to store a cleaning product. Recycled plastic milk jugs are NOT a good container to use for this one, as they deteriorate after a few weeks, and you will be left with a very sticky mess. The recipe calls for soap flakes, which are nearly impossible to find in a grocery store these days, but you can use a food grater with a bar of pure soap (such as Ivory) and get the same results. Enjoy!

Laundry Detergent: Basic Mix
1 cup soap flakes
1/2 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax

Laundry Detergent: Soft Water Mix
1 cup soap flakes
1/4 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax

Laundry Detergent: Hard Water Mix
1 cup soap flakes
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax

Liquid Laundry Detergent
1 cup of any of the above mixes
2 tablespoons glycerin
2 cups warm water

Mix ingredients and store in a sealed, labeled canister in the laundry room.
To use, measure 1/2 – 3/4 cup of the mix and wash your clothing in warm or cold water. Use cold water for the rinse cycle.

Yield: 12 ounces

final-fantasy-xiii-7 Here is a recipe for a shampoo bar which is gentle enough for daily use or can be used as a preventative for head liceAs with all the soap recipes on this site, please read through the method first and ensure you understand everything. Be very careful using lye (caustic soda or sodium hydroxide) as it can cause really nasty burns if used carelessly. However, if you are sensible and follow the instructions you will make a soap to be proud of!

Caustic soda is available from hardware shops like Wilkinsons, and will be found where the drain cleaners are. Make sure you get the 100% caustic soda and not the one which has metal in it.

Follow the instructions and ingredients carefully and remember to weigh EVERYTHING, even the water!

INGREDIENTS
125 grams coconut oil
125 grams olive oil
90 grams palm oil
35 grams almond oil
35 grams neem oil (or may used other oil to replace it)
90 grams castor oil, plus 3 more tablespoons for adding to the soap later. The addition of extra castor oil makes a really frothy lather making it ideal for creating a shampoo bar
71 grams caustic soda
200 grams water infused with nettle, rosemary, fennel and melissa (put your jug on the scale and weigh your infusion into it)
1 teaspoon each of tea tree, rosemary, lavender and lemon essential oils

GATHER TOGETHER YOUR UTENSILS:
A Pyrex jug
A large Pyrex bowl
A clean stick to stir the lye solution
A wooden spoon (do not use the spoon for anything else other than soap)
A pair of rubber gloves (I suggest you wear shoes and long sleeved top and something which covers your legs too – lye solution burns and carries on burning!)
Something to mould your soap in, an old margarine tub (thicker one 500 gram size) is ideal or any box that sort of size.

METHOD
Weigh your COLD water in your jug.
Weigh your caustic soda crystals into an old cup.
Add the crystals to the water in the jug, SLOWLY, STIRRING ALL THE TIME WITH YOUR CLEAN STICK – IT WILL GET HOT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND GIVE OFF FUMES – DON’T BREATHE THEM IN THEY’RE NOT NICE!
Set the jug aside and allow cooling.
Pour your oils into the Pyrex dish.
Heat the oils (either in a microwave, or over a saucepan of boiling water). The temperature you are aiming for is about 80 C. The lye solution must be about this temperature too. If you put your hand on the side of the jug and on the side of the bowl you can feel if they’re the same temperature; they should feel just warm.

Now the fun bit. Slowly pour your lye solution into the oils, stirring all of the time with your wooden spoon. The oils will change color and consistency and look like custard! Keep stirring, keep stirring, keep stirring – did I say keep stirring! This is to incorporate the mixture. The process we are aiming for is called saponification where all of the lye is chemically changed by interaction with the oils into SOAP.

The mixture will start to thicken, when it reaches the stage where if you lift the spoon out and draw it over the surface you can see a “trace” which falls back slowly that’s it! (It’s actually called trace honest!).

Now you can add your essential oils and the three extra tablespoons of castor oil. Adding oil at the trace process is called ‘superfatting’: When oils are added then they do not saponify fully so you get more of the benefit of the oils.
When the fragrance is stirred through you can pour your soap into your mould.
Pour mixture into mould carefully.

When all the mix is in put aside your utensils.
Now if there is a lid for your mould, put it on, if not cover with a plate and wrap it all up in a thick towel (this is to insulate the soap). You can then leave the soap to set for 24 hours.
After 24 hours unmould your soap, cut it into bars and leave it to dry out completely for about 4 weeks. (This “cures” the soap and ensures that total saponification has taken place (no lye left!).

You can wash up your utensils now too! Don’t do this before as if you wash them straight away you are pouring raw soap into the drainage system – not well! Leaving it for the 24 hours allows the residue to saponify and then all you’re washing away is nice pure soap.

Enjoy your soap!

3. Bahan penunjang

Bahan :

  1. kacang kedelai sebanyak 1 kg.
  2. ragi tempe sebanyak 2 gram.

PROSES :

Cuci bersih kacang kedelai dan rendam selama 24 jam.

Setelah direndam selama 24 jam, kacang kedelai mekar seperti yang terlihat seperti gambar diatas ini.

image

Mulailah meremas-remas kacang kedelai agar kulit arinya lepas.

image

image

Simpan tempe didalam lemari (gambar diatas mempergunakan lemari dapur).

image
Setelah 36 jam, tempe siap diolah. image
